So summer has come and gone and with that have come a lot of new changes for the Society. First things first, the one you’re using. We have a new website, its looking pretty snazzy however its still needs to survive the ultimate test of supporting our students. So run it through its paces and tell us what you think, we can’t wait to hear your feedback and update the site accordingly (email firstname.lastname@example.org with any problems you discover). Another new aspect is that we’re going to start blogging some updates now and then, and this is to keep the executive accountable to you, our students but also to spread some awareness on our progress.
The executive has been hard a work to provide you with some brand new services as well as improve some old ones. Personally I’ve been focusing on the Website, Welcome Week and the MESCard program. The MESCard has lost one deal due to a business closing down but in the process we’ve gained two new local deals to make up for it! So be sure to check out the information page to find out where the new deals are and if you’re an upper year student, sign up to get your Card. If you’ve already signed up for your card last year, but never picked it up because you forgot to, please come and pick it up during Executive Office hours. Please do it. I’ve emailed you five times now.
Besides MESCards your new VP External Andrew has been hard at working organizing a Professional Development Committee with the aims of providing more National Engineering Month programming as well as various professional development events throughout the year. Taya, VP Student Life, is organizing our first ever Annual General Meeting for Groups, Teams and Affiliates with the goal of sharing best practices and working towards serving general members better. Mitchell, VP Academic, has maintained the Academic side of the MES by increasing the variety of books in the Textbook Library as well as making steps to build a bigger and better MEC this year (watch out for that in November). And finally Matt, VP Finance, has ensured that we still have money and that none of us are doing anything illegal (as well as drafted a concrete budget which will be presented at our first council meeting).
Besides the executive, our Events co-ordinating team under Alie’s leadership have been working hard at creating a huge array of events for you enjoyment (Check out the Events Calendar! Wahooo) and Culture has planned every Flush and cultural event for the year (Thanks Aveline and Marko you’re both gems). The Student Wellness Committee has also been formed and under the leadership of Bryan Williams and Francesca Altobelli the Committee aims to promote mental health awareness throughout the year as well as organize stress buster events during midterm and exam season (any questions for them can be directed to email@example.com).
Besides that, the school year is now in full swing! For more details on any of these new endeavours feel free to stumble on over to the contacts tab and email the appropriate person (or email me to rant/criqitue/compliment/troll this blog post or anything else MES related). We’re hoping to make these posts a regular occurrence in between some of our more serious posts and like I mentioned earlier this is with the aims of giving the society some personality as well as keeping us accountable to you, our members. As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Have yourselves a great start of term and can’t wait to see you all back on campus!
